Snow Algae
Origin: Plant and Biotech
INCI: Coenochloris Signiensis Extract
Swiss Snow algae are single-cell algae with the unique ability to survive the harsh and extreme conditions of alpine and polar environments. Snow algae grow in areas where there is either an Alpine or polar climate in which there is snow all year round. The normally green algae adapt to the extreme environmental conditions: When the UV radiation is increased in early summer the algae turn red as they produce considerably more carotenoid pigments than chlorophyll ones. The production of other secondary metabolites such as biopolymers, antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs), stress modifiers and osmotically active amino acids and sugars also help these extremophile algae to survive in their habitat.
Rich in nourishing amino acids and carbohydrates, Snow Algae has been proven to inhibit enzymes responsible for collagen degradation while also boosting the synthesis of new collagen, improving skin’s elasticity and tone. Clinical tests have also proven that Snow Algae reinforces the skin’s barrier, therefore reducing trans-epidermal water loss and increasing hydration levels in the skin. Skin feels more comfortable, looks fresher and more youthful, with less wrinkle depth and more elasticity.
Why It's Pure
From a green to red colour - Snow algae adapt to their environment by modifying their pigmentation. The red alae naturally produces carotenoid pigment to protect against UV rays.
Why It's Tech
Snow Algae is sustainably produced in a 3-step process using tube photo-bioreactors. The end extract is homogenised and transformed into liposomes for easy use in skin care products.
Why It's Beauty
In vivo studies demonstrate that subjects using Snow Algae powder see their skin pigmentation diminish in 67% of cases, and a 25% increase in skin hydration after 2 weeks.
